NO.10 - Striving for excellence in any business venture

No matter what you do, whether you are an employee, a small business owner or if you are running a large corporation, you must always strive for perfection in anything that you do. You are in charge of your life. No one else will take that responsibility for you if you refuse to strive for excellence.

People expect excellence from their leaders or from people they look up to. These expectations will always be there. You can’t run away from it and you are expected to deliver.

You see, if you are shooting at a target, you might as well aim at the bull’s eye. It isn’t easy to hit the bull’s eye, but if you miss, there is a high chance that you will hit the target somewhere around the bull’s eye. If you aim at the sides, there is a strong chance that you might not even hit the board! We can’t expect to get a maximum score every time we give our maximum effort. Things might not go as planned. We will always fall short sometimes so we must aim as high as possible.

Aim for the sky because if fail to make at, at least you will clear the fence.

Here is a motivational story of a quarterback who had to do the death crawl (carrying another footballer on his back) a couple of yards across the field. The coach was telling him to give his best and nothing but his best because the opponents are really tough and the team were lacking in confidence.

He blindfolded the quarterback and the death crawl started. As he was crawling along, the coach kept on shouting at him telling him to keep on going. He yelled at him even when his body was aching! He kept on telling him to keep head up, to do just a few more yards, to give his very best and nothing less than that. The coach kept on assuring him that he was almost there and it was just a few yards away.

As his team mates watched on, they were amazed at the quarterback’s persistence. He just kept on going until he couldn’t take it anymore. As the quarterback collapsed on the field, he removed his blindfold to discover a very pleasant surprise. He completed a death crawl all the way across the entire football field! What a glorious victory! It was truly inspiring to his teammates.

Isn’t life like that sometimes?

In real life, when we continue to push ourselves and strive for excellence, we often surpass what we think we are capable of. Most of the time, we limit ourselves. We are the ones who fail ourselves. We fail to understand that the more we stretch our muscles, the stronger we will become. Just when we are on the verge of giving up, hope and faith will help us to get through the toughest times and the ultimate triumph will occur.

If you hope to succeed in business, you must go all out and give your best and nothing less.
